The BSG Awards for Excellence in Sustainability celebrate individuals, organizations, and initiatives that are making a real difference in building a sustainable future.

Organized by Bharat Soka Gakkai (BSG), these awards recognize efforts that drive positive sustainable change in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At BSG, we live by the concept of Sustainable Human Behaviour, which believes that true sustainability begins with transformation in human behavior—how we are willing to learn more about sustainability, reflect and act to build a sustainable world, and empower others around us.

BSG awards celebrate changemakers who transform themselves, and help others transform their behaviour and lifestyles to repair the fractured relationship with our environment, and to create a new age where our life choices genuinely respect the ecosystem we are surrounded with.

Vision of the Awards

Through the BSG Awards, we aim to shine a light on individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable and compassionate world, inspiring more people to make sustainability a part of everyday life.

This marks the fourth season of BSG’s award initiatives, celebrating changemakers creating meaningful impact in society and the environment. In 2021, BSG launched the Change Maker Humanity Awards in collaboration with Jaipur National University to honor unsung heroes in medicine, education, and the social sector. Building on this momentum, BSG organized the Schoolathon on Sustainability in 2023, in partnership with Manav Rachna University, providing a platform for school students to showcase innovative solutions for achieving the SDGs.

Continuing this journey, BSG hosted the first edition of the BSG Awards for Excellence in Sustainability in 2025, recognizing inspiring individuals, institutions, and organizations demonstrating commitment towards sustainable development and environmental consciousness.

At BSG, we believe every action, no matter how small, can contribute towards a more sustainable and harmonious future. Through these awards, we hope to inspire and celebrate those who are creating positive change for people and the planet.

About BSG

BSG is an organization that works towards empowering individuals with special focus on youth. It engages in activities under the umbrella of peace, culture, education & sustainability to establish happiness & respect for all lives. BSG is part of the global Soka Gakkai organization. Headquartered in New Delhi, BSG has over 285,000 voluntary members from 600 towns and cities across India, spanning all age groups. Youth make up the majority, with over 140,000 members, with an average age of 27 years.

About BSG for SDG

‘BSG for SDG’ is a humble initiative launched by BSG in 2021 to increase awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encourage urgent action towards achieving them.

The motto of the ‘BSG for SDG’ initiative is "Towards 2030: Achieving SDGs through Sustainable Human Behaviour".

About Sustainable Human Behaviour

Factors like regulation, technology, CSR funding etc are driving the cause of sustainability today. But are they enough? A transformation is required at the deepest level of human life – bringing mindfulness and consideration towards others at the forefront in our day-to-day life - be it towards other humans, animals, birds, environment, laws, institutions, etc. This is called ‘Sustainable Human Behaviour’ – a term coined by BSG. The heart of SHB lies in bringing a conscious focus to respect the dignity of all life. Technology alone cannot undo what technology has created. It is people’s behaviour which will determine whether a society will flourish on a sustainable basis. BSG has been undertaking various activities to encourage people to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.

About BSG for SDG Activities

  • An exclusive 'BSG for SDG' mobile app and website serves as a one-stop-platform where individuals can learn about sustainability easily.
  • Since 2021, BSG has been organizing an exhibition titled 'Seeds of Hope & Action' (SOHA) in various institutes of India. The exhibition raises awareness amongst the young students on climate change, the SDGs and the role of youth.
  • 'SDG Clubs' have been initiated in institutes which are designed to raise and foster SDG leaders in society.
  • BSG’s bimonthly newsletter titled 'SUSTAINABLE' is based on themes such as “Youth and Sustainability”, “Women Empowerment”, “Climate Change”, among others.
  • Short, curated videos on SDGs are available on BSG's official YouTube channel and social media pages.
  • SDG meetings/webinars/conclaves/symposiums are conducted periodically wherein thought leaders from the field of sustainability share their views on how we can adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
  • Plastic Collection Drives and Beach Cleaning Drives are conducted annually in different cities each year to help individuals inculcate the habit of waste segregation and recycling.
  • Sustainability workshops are organized for women and children from marginalised communities to empower them to adopt sustainability as a way of life.
